Kitchen Deep Cleaning Checklist

A kitchen deep clean goes much faster when you follow a checklist. You don’t forget anything, you work in the right order, and you don’t end up cleaning the same counter twice. Use this kitchen deep cleaning checklist for your next full clean, and the routine at the end to keep things under control in between.

Before You Start

☐ Clear the counters — move jars, appliances and utensils to another room
☐ Switch off the stove gas at the cylinder or main valve
☐ Keep ready: degreaser, dish soap, baking soda, white vinegar, a soft scrub brush, old toothbrush, microfibre cloths, sponge, gloves
☐ Open windows for ventilation

Order to follow: top to bottom, dry before wet, floor last.

Zone 1: High Areas

☐ Remove cobwebs from ceiling corners
☐ Clean the top of cabinets and the fridge (usually the greasiest, dustiest spot)
☐ Clean the exhaust fan blades and cover (power off first)
☐ Wipe light fittings and tube lights

Zone 2: Chimney and Stove Area

☐ Remove chimney filters and soak them in hot water with dish soap or degreaser
☐ Degrease the outer body of the chimney
☐ Remove pan supports and burner caps; soak in warm soapy water
☐ Scrub the stove top and knobs
☐ Scrub and rinse chimney filters, dry fully and refit
☐ Reassemble burners only when completely dry

Zone 3: Wall Tiles and Backsplash

☐ Apply degreaser to tiles behind and above the stove; leave for a few minutes
☐ Scrub tiles with a soft brush or sponge
☐ Clean grout lines with an old toothbrush
☐ Wipe all remaining wall tiles
☐ Rinse and dry

Zone 4: Cabinets and Shelves

☐ Empty cabinets one at a time
☐ Throw out expired spices, snacks and old containers
☐ Wipe inside shelves; replace old shelf liners
☐ Degrease cabinet doors, especially near the stove
☐ Clean handles and knobs
☐ Refill, putting everyday items at the front

Zone 5: Countertops

☐ Wipe crumbs and dust
☐ Clean with a product safe for your counter (avoid vinegar and acidic cleaners on granite and marble)
☐ Clean the wall joint where counter meets tiles

Zone 6: Sink and Tap

☐ Scrub the sink with baking soda paste
☐ Descale the tap — white hard-water marks are common in Karaikudi homes with borewell water
☐ Clean the drain strainer and around the drain
☐ Pour hot water down the drain to clear grease
☐ Wash or replace sponges and scrubbers

Zone 7: Appliances

☐ Fridge: empty, discard old food, wash shelves and drawers, wipe the door seals, clean the exterior (see our fridge cleaning service if you’d rather not)
☐ Microwave: heat a bowl of water with lemon for 3–4 minutes, then wipe the interior
☐ Mixer grinder: clean jars, blades and base (unplugged)
☐ Water purifier: wipe exterior and tap
☐ Oven / OTG: remove racks and clean the interior

Zone 8: Windows, Grills and Switchboards

☐ Wash window grills and frames
☐ Clean glass
☐ Wipe switchboards with a barely damp cloth (power off)

Zone 9: Floor — Last

☐ Move light appliances and clean underneath
☐ Sweep, including corners and under cabinets
☐ Scrub greasy patches near the stove
☐ Mop and let dry

Final Touches

☐ Empty and wash the dustbin
☐ Replace hand towels and kitchen cloths
☐ Put everything back on the counters

Daily	Wipe stove top and tiles behind the stove after cooking; wipe counters; wash the sink; empty the bin
Weekly	Wipe cabinet fronts and handles; clean appliance exteriors; clear fridge of old food; mop the floor thoroughly
Monthly	Clean chimney filters; descale the tap; clean the microwave; wipe inside a few cabinets
Every 2–3 months	Full kitchen deep clean using the checklist above
