Kitchen Deep Cleaning: What Does It Include?
The kitchen is the hardest-working room in most homes. Daily cooking with oil, tempering, steam and spices leaves a layer of grease that slowly builds up on tiles, cabinets, the chimney and the exhaust fan. Once it mixes with dust, it turns sticky and dark — and ordinary wiping stops working.
That’s when a professional kitchen deep clean helps. But what exactly does it include? Here’s a clear breakdown.
Kitchen Cleaning vs Kitchen Deep Cleaning
| Everyday kitchen cleaning | Kitchen deep cleaning |
|---|---|
| Wiping the counter and stove top | Degreasing all wall tiles, including behind and above the stove |
| Washing the sink | Descaling the tap, scrubbing the sink and cleaning the drain area |
| Sweeping and mopping | Scrubbing the floor, corners and under movable appliances |
| Occasional wipe of cabinet doors | Cleaning cabinet fronts, handles and (if emptied) insides |
| Rarely touched | Exhaust fan, chimney exterior, top of cabinets, switchboards |
What a Professional Kitchen Deep Clean Includes
1. Wall tiles and backsplash
Tiles behind and around the stove collect the most grease. These are treated with a degreaser suitable for the tile, scrubbed, and rinsed. Grout lines are cleaned too.
2. Chimney and exhaust fan
The outer body of the chimney is degreased and wiped. Removable filters can be soaked and cleaned. The exhaust fan blades and cover — often coated in thick, sticky grease — are cleaned where they can be safely reached. (Internal chimney motor servicing is a technician’s job and isn’t part of cleaning.)
3. Stove and hob
The gas stove top, burners, pan supports and knobs are cleaned of burnt-on food and grease.
4. Countertops
Granite, marble or tiled counters are cleaned with products that won’t dull or etch the surface.
5. Cabinets and shelves
Cabinet doors, handles and shelf edges are degreased and wiped. If you empty the cabinets beforehand, the inside shelves can be cleaned as well.
6. Sink, tap and drain area
The sink is scrubbed, hard-water marks on the tap are descaled, and the visible part of the drain and strainer is cleaned.
7. Appliance exteriors
The fridge, microwave, mixer grinder and other appliances are wiped on the outside. Fridge and microwave interiors can be added — see our fridge cleaning service.
8. Windows, grills and switchboards
Kitchen windows and grills collect both grease and dust. These are cleaned along with switchboards (with power switched off where needed).
9. Top of cabinets and high surfaces
The area on top of cabinets is usually the dirtiest spot in the kitchen, because no one sees it. It’s cleaned as part of a proper deep clean.
10. Floor
The floor is scrubbed last, including corners and edges, and the area under movable appliances.
What’s Usually Not Included
- Repairs to the chimney motor, gas stove or appliances
- Plumbing work such as fixing leaking taps or blocked pipes (see our plumbing services)
- Moving heavy built-in appliances
- Washing dishes and utensils
- Removing permanent stains from damaged or porous surfaces
How Long Does It Take?
A typical home kitchen usually takes a few hours. Kitchens with heavy grease buildup, a large number of cabinets, or where the insides of cabinets and the fridge are included may take longer.
How to Prepare
- Clear the countertop of jars, appliances and utensils as much as possible
- Empty cabinets if you want the insides cleaned
- Empty the fridge if fridge cleaning is included
- Avoid cooking during the cleaning so surfaces can be cleaned and dried
- Tell us your counter and tile type if you know it
How Often Should You Deep Clean the Kitchen?
For most Karaikudi homes that cook daily, a kitchen deep clean every 2–3 months keeps grease from building up to the point where it’s hard to remove. Restaurants and commercial kitchens usually need it monthly. Want to keep on top of it yourself? Use our kitchen deep cleaning checklist.
